Suicide Doors open outwards and horizontal like a normal door but are hinged from the back unlike most modern doors which are hinged from the front.

Suicide doors first got there name back in the 1930's because a combination of terrible chassis flex, and unreliable single acting catches means that they could come undone over bumps or whilst cornering. Without seatbelts it was very easy to fall out, and be killed. Today's cars have much better chassis and double acting safety catches - NEVER be tempted to use single acting catches on suicide doors. If they come open whilst you are going along, the wind will open the door violently and cause major damage to both the door, rear quarter and any pedestrians or other road users you are near. Double acting catches are only a few pounds more. The best thing to use is your own catches as removed from the back of the door during installation.

This is the basic suicide door kit. The kit contains 4 mechanisms (2 are used on each door) and is enough to convert a pair of doors. It will fit most cars, but does require welding. The main mechanism is bushed for reliability and durability and the kit also includes door frame strengthening metal in black above. These mechanisms are fitted at the back of the door, and the old latch re-used at the front - not the use of single acting kitcar type latches is neither safe nor legal - if you use the manufacturers latch repositioned you will have both safety and legality on your side.
